Under the supervision of the Department of Dentistry at Peninsula Hospital Center, the Colgate Dental Van has returned to the Rockaways.
On June 9th, the van was staffed with Peninsula Hospital personnel who provided free dental screenings, treatment referrals and oral health education to over 200 students from PS 105. The elementary school children were able to board the van and learn about the various components of the van itself, dental hygiene and the importance of regular dental visits. As each child came on board, they received a brief pep talk about why and how to brush their teeth and the importance of taking care of their mouths. In addition, each child received a basic “look-see” dental examination with the results given to the children to bring home to their parents for review. Everyone left the van with a toothbrush, toothpaste, a brushing chart and coupons courtesy of the Colgate Company.
