The new Trump Pavilion is well on its way to its highly anticipated Spring 2009 opening. Scheduled to open in April, several phases of construction were recently completed. The underground tunnel, which connects the facility to the hospital, is finished, as well as most of the site exterior and the inpatient floors. The lobby and its 40-ft atrium are also nearing completion. Utilities, such as heat, plumbing, and electrical, have been finalized. Lighting fixtures, woodwork, and door framing are among other things that have been completed. In addition, the hospital has also ordered furniture for the new building.
While the construction of the building has been exciting and employees can see its progress, a number of projects remain underway, including:
• The grading (asphalting and paving) of the street. This will reopen 135th Street.
• Inspections from the FDNY
• Applying for all necessary permits for the Certificate of Occupancy
• Planting trees in front of the building
Once opened, the new four story, 226 bed facility will provide patients with state-of-art sub acute rehabilitation and skilled nursing care. Residents will benefit from the unique “modified bi-axial” design, a double room created to feel like a private room. They will also enjoy commons areas on each patient floor, a larger dining space, a patio garden, a mediation room and a grandiose atrium at the entrance of the facility.
