Nurses Week at Brookdale, Flushing, and Jamaica Hospitals was celebrated from May 6-12 with “great recognition,” “tremendous appreciation,” and several fun-filled activities.
To kick-off the week, Jamaica Hospital held an awards ceremony, followed by an ice cream party, while a mariachis band performed on the patient care units and auditorium at Flushing Hospital. At Brookdale Hospital, a nursing health conference, focused on men’s health, was organized.
Throughout the week, several other activities took place, including, luncheons, health fairs, talent showcases, surprise performances, and citywide dinners, to name a few. On hand at some of the events were local officials. State Senator John Sampson was the guest speaker at Brookdale’s nursing recognition ceremony and Councilman John Liu spoke to the nurses at Flushing Hospital’s ceremony.
Both officials acknowledged the work that nurses do and how vital they are in a patient’s care. Councilman Liu’s aunt was a patient at Flushing Hospital and he informed everyone that she “well taken care of by the nurses.” State Senator Sampson continually said “thank you” to the nurses who “give so much of themselves to take care of patients.”
The nurses received the messages and gratitude with genuine smiles and in most cases, with awards as well.
“We truly enjoy nurse’s week and the appreciation our nurses receive,” said Cynthia Linder, Director of Nursing at Jamaica Hospital. “It’s only once a year but it allows us to recognize the time, dedication, and caring that goes into the daily work of our nurses.”
To all nurses throughout the MediSys Health Network, continue to make a difference. Job well done!
