On Wednesday August 29th, NY State Assemblyman Rory Lancman traded in his law degree for a medical degree as he participated in the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center /Greater New York Hospital Association “Resident for a Day” Program.
The purpose of the program was to have legislators spend a day making rounds with residents at NY State teaching hospitals to learn about the value that residents and the Graduate Medical Education program brings to the health care system.
The more knowledgeable and better educated legislators will then be able to help the MediSys hospitals and other hospitals of the state fight potential cuts from Albany to our reimbursements for training of physicians and payments for Graduate Medical Education (GME).
“Jamaica Hospital plays a vital role in our community, and my experience as a 'resident for a day' taught me just how much effort and dedication the staff puts in to making the hospital as great as it is,” stated NY State Assemblyman Rory Lancman as he toured Jamaica Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.
Jamaica Hospital Medical Center trains 140 residents each year in such specialties as Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, General Dentistry, Podiatry and also Fellowships in Palliative Care Psychosomatic Medicine.
