Over 550 friends of Brookdale gathered at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge on December 2, 2006 to pay homage to two very special people; Dr. Alvin I. Kahn, Chairman of the Board of Trustees whose exemplary dedication to Brookdale for half a century has left an indelible mark in the lives of many and Dr. Shepard H. Splain, Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics and President of the Medical Staff, esteemed physician and teacher who has been part of the Brookdale family for over 30 years.
Dr. Splain received the Brookdale Medal, the highest distinction the hospital confers and Dr. Kahn was presented with a replica of the plaque that is displayed in the Sonja and Dr. Alvin I. Kahn Auditorium on the Brookdale campus.
Brookdale is currently in the process of an extensive upgrading of equipment and technology that translates into state-of-the-art patient care. Proceeds of the event have been earmarked for continuation of this modernization ensuring that Brookdale's patients will have access to state-of-the-art care despite the shortcomings of the healthcare industry’s financial trials and tribulations.
Trustees Richard Radutzky was the master of ceremonies and acknowledged the importance of the event highlighting Brookdale’s mission to provide the highest level of patient care.
Mr. David P. Rosen, President and CEO reiterated the importance of the event and thanked the attendees for their generous contributions, that allows Brookdale to expand areas of treatment and upgrade technology. It is because of this that Brookdale remains at the helm of professional medical care in the New York metropolitan area.
