Assemblyman Rory Lancman Makes Rounds at Jamaica Hospital

Jamaica_logo2 On Wednesday August 29th, NY State Assemblyman Rory Lancman traded in his law degree for a medical degree as he participated in the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center /Greater New York Hospital Association “Resident for a Day” Program.

The purpose of the program was to have legislators spend a day making rounds with residents at NY State teaching hospitals to learn about the value that residents and the Graduate Medical Education program brings to the health care system.

The more knowledgeable and better educated legislators will then be able to help the MediSys hospitals and other hospitals of the state fight potential cuts from Albany to our reimbursements for training of physicians and payments for Graduate Medical Education (GME).

Lanc_1 “Jamaica Hospital plays a vital role in our community, and my experience as a 'resident for a day' taught me just how much effort and dedication the staff puts in to making the hospital as great as it is,” stated NY State Assemblyman Rory Lancman as he toured Jamaica Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center trains 140 residents each year in such specialties as Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, General Dentistry, Podiatry and also Fellowships in Palliative Care Psychosomatic Medicine.

Hot Fun in the Summer Sun at Trump Pavilion

Medisys_logo_2 August has been a busy month for the residents at at Trump Pavilion.  That's because the staff planned not one, but two exciting events to the summer calendar.

Hat_fashion_show_pictures_159 First up, the center's 12th Annual Hat Fashion Show was held on Aug 1 and like previous year's, it was a huge success.  The event was attended by close to half of the 200+ residents of the facility.  Residents designed and made hats to be worn during the fashion show.  Staff and volunteer escorts also wore hats as they brought residents through the balloon decorated runway.

The summer festivities continued on August 14, when Trump Beach_party threw its first-ever beach party. Wearing their coolest summer shades, staff and residents gathered in the main dinning room and feasted on a summer barbecue of hot dogs, hamburgers, watermelon and other summer treats provided by Jamaica Hospital's Dietary staff.

With summer's end drawing near, the staff and the residents eagerly anticipate what activities Trump Pavilion might be cooking up for the Fall.
